Scope:
Provide better Primary Health Care (PHC) services in remote and less developed areas of Arunachal via a unique Government - Private Parnership. Karuna Trust as the private NGO will extend to Arunachal this model which it has already demonstrated in Karnataka.

In this model the the government hands over the entire functioning of the PHC to an NGO along with bulk (70-90%) of the allocated funds. The NGO raises the balance on its own.

IFA Grant will be used by Karuna Trust to take over the management and operation of 9 Public Health Centers in Arunachal from the Governement. The bulk of the required funding - almost 90% - will come from the Government.

Years supported:  2

IFA Funding: $ 24,000

IFA Visits:  Dr. Sudarshan talked to IFA core members in September 2006 about the opportunity for Public-Private Partnership in health care in Arunachal's remote and less developed areas.  Later in 2006 Prithvi and Surekha visited some health care facilities in Arunachal.  In 2007 IFA partnered with Karuna Trust in this highly innovative intervention. We got a very satisfactory update on this project from Dr. Sudershan at the IFA Meeting in Sevagram in December 2008.
