Right to Information (RTI) Act and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREG) were passed by the Indian Parliament in 2005 and are now the law of the land.  NREG is an act of far reaching consequences for the rural poor, and the RTI act with its emppowering of people against corruption, couldn't have come at a better time. These are two important landmarks in Indian Democracy.

These two acts have come to pass because of persistent and principled pressure by people's movements all over India. The NCPRI played a significant role in providing leadership and guidance.
We at IFA are proud to have provided them support.

Scope:
NREG Act:
Establish a minimum security net for the poor and in the process create mechanisms for public investment in rural development that is people-based and geared to the benefit of the most vulnerable segements.

RTI Act: Empower rural poor to fight against political corruption that has been a major obstacle to implementation of all such schemes in the past.
